The LGiU blog is produced by the LGiU and features articles, comment and think pieces from the team and network of guest contributors.  The blog is edited by Rob Dale. Regular contributors are:

Andy Sawford Andy Sawford is chief executive of the LGiU where he has championed a new balance of power between central and local government to strengthen local democracy, improve public services, and meet emerging policy challenges, such as environmental, economic and demographic change. Andy is a regular voice across online, national, regional and hyperlocal media.

 

Jonathan Carr-West is a director at LGiU where he leads the Unit’s policy team. Some of Jonathan’s particular interests are in participative democracy, the evolving nature of communities and behaviour change.

 

 

Jane is a communications manager. In addition to managing the LGiU’s website she looks after the organisation’s publications from editorial through design to print and distribution.

Jane is also Deputy Editor of the LGiU’s c’llr magazine and all enquiries about the magazine should be directed

 

Laura Wilkes joined the LGiU in March 2009 and is a policy manager. Her areas of expertise include: the role of councillors; engaging and empowering citizens; promoting local democracy and the Big Society. Projects for LGiU have included the C’llr Achievement Awards, the Big Society Learning Network, Paying for It and a pamphlet for the I&DeA on the role of members in community empowerment.

 

Laurie Thraves is a policy manager at the LGiU. His main area of focus is schools policy. Laurie has previously worked at Reform and the British Institute in East Africa, an academic research body.

 

 

Rob’s work at the LGiU seeks to understand the potential of online interaction for strengthening local democracy and supporting new forms of political participation.

Prior to joining the LGiU, Rob worked as a journalist and consultant to MPs, the BBC and small media start-ups
